    Sharon graduated from Doane College at Crete and has a Masters Degree from the University of Nebraska. As of 1988, she worked at the Bennett Martin Library in Lincoln. Her daughter Kristen was living in Denver, and son Andrew was living in Lincoln with his mother. (Milligan, p 263).

    Notes:

    Graduated from the University of Nebraska. He located his dental office in Western, Nebraska. He served on the Western School Board, was a director of the Western Co-op Bank, and had a Presidential Citation for Selective Service during World War II. (Milligan, p 263).

    Graduated from Milligan High School in 1925. She took part in the Sokol Organization and was a member of Czech Dramatic Club. She attended the University of Nebraska and taught in four rural schools near Milligan for 8 years. Later she helped her husband with his dental office. She served on the Library Board for many years, and was a member and former president of the Western Womens Club. (Milligan, p 263).

    Duba - Rose M., 95, Western, died Wednesday (3/26/03) in Lincoln. Born, Lawton, Okla. (3/10/08), to F.R. and Mary (Svec) Soukup. At an early age they moved to Milligan. Entered the newly built Milligan School at the age of 5, graduated, 1925. Joined the "Sokols," and they performed in different towns with the Wilber, Crete and Omaha Sokols. Throughout her life she maintained membership in ZCBJ Lodge in Milligan. Also joined Czech Dramatic Club, acted in Czech plays in many different towns, including Milligan at the newly built Milligan auditorium. Served as leader, 4-H girls, also at Milligan. Attended University of Nebraska and taught school in four different rural schools for eight years after graduation.

    Married Dr. Henry S. Duba, 1933, who had been her classmate. Moved to DeWitt, 1935, where they practiced dentistry for six months, taking the place of Dr. Klein who had taken a leave of absence after an accident. Moved to Western, 1935, where Henry practiced dentistry, and she was his dental assistant for about 40 years. Joined Nebraska Dental Association for Dental Assistants. They were blessed with one daughter, Sharon Kay, born, 1941. Belonged to Western Woman's Club, serving as president for two years, followed by being president, Inter County Club, one year. As a volunteer, assisted at Western Library and Community Club. She and Dr. Duba were chosen as Bicentennial Royalty couple for the Old Settlers Picnic together with Mr. and Mrs. Ben Zoubek, 1978. After retirement they continued to enjoy their love of Czech heritage, particularly dancing and listening to Czech music. They were often found fishing from the banks of local lakes and rivers.

    Survivors: grandson, Andrew Rinquest, Lincoln; granddaughter, Kristin Holmes, Cottage Grove, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Anastasia Holmes, Raven Solberg, both Cottage Grove; sister, Marie Sysel, Crete; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Henry S.; daughter, Sharon Kay; brother, Lt. Frank Soukup; sisters, Pauline Brt, Wilma Huppert, Irma Dinneen, Alice Marshall.

    Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, United Methodist Church, Western. Pastor Mike Flury. National Bohemian Cemetery, Milligan. Visitation: 5-9 p.m. Friday with prayer service at 7:30 p.m., Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St. Pallbearers: Charles Pallesen, Andrew Rinquest, Allen, Glen Soukup, James Robert, Lonnie Dinneen, Wallace Brt. Honorary pallbearers: Buddy Schmidt, Ben Zoubek, Jim Rischling, Tom Murphy, Gerald Kotas, Lumir Jansky, Ray Soukup, Lumir Svec, Jim Votipka, Ralph Kassik, Layne Schelbitzki. Memorials to church.

  1. 12.  Joseph A. Duba was born on 25 Mar 1880 in Opatov, Bohemia; died on 2 Dec 1964; was buried in Bohemian National Cemetery (Milligan South), Milligan, Fillmore County, Nebraska.

    Notes:

    Joseph left his homeland as a young boy. Arriving with him John J. and Katerina Beran Duba, his grandpa, Vaclav Duba, his uncle and aunt, the Vaclav Dubas and his infant sister, Mary. In 1886, they settled on a prarie farm fourteen miles west of Wilber. His mother passed away on March 5, 1890, leaving him, his two sisters, Mary and Anna, and his infant brother Johnny, his father and grandfather to mourn her. Joseph's father later remarried Anna Rychecky, who was a good stepmother. (Milligan, p 263).

    The daughter of Frank and Anna Vachtl Nohava. She was a good seamstress and helped in a millinery shop. (Milligan, p 263).

    In the book HISTORY OF MILLIGAN NEBRASKA 1888-1988 it is noted that

    "...moved to Junction City, Oklahoma, where they homesteaded and in 1909 returned to Milligan where they farmed for a number of years. F.R. managed different businesses during his lifetime among them being manager of the Jicha Central Hall and tavern. After Joseph Jica Sr. passed away, R. R. and Edward Janousek managed the place together for sometime. He also worked in the Herman Stastny tavern.

    In 1921, he moved from the farm southwest of Milligan and purchased Alois Petracek dry goods and grocery store, which he and his wife managed. Later he sold the store.

    After the Farmer's Co-operative Company was organized, F.R. Soukup and his son, Frank, were among some of the employees. At the second annual stockholders meeting, a livestock shippers association was organized and F.R was hired to take charge of this new association. At one time the Farmers Co-op Elevator shipped livestock to market for the owner. F.R. was in charge of the livestock department. F.R. and Edward Cudly also managed the Farmer Co-op at one time."

    According to his application for a Social Security Number, Frank was employed by Stastny & Vasina in MIlligan in 1940. His SS-5 also indicated that his Middle Initial, R, was just that. He did not have an actual middle name. SSN 507-18-6921.

Their attendants, Joe Soukup Sr of Swanton, Albert Kassik Sr and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Suda, were able to be present for their 50th."
